Bablos has already ported an Amiga version and Gob has created a Mac port. You can find them both here...
- New Angband/64. Jurriaan Kalkman has a new version (beta 5 release 4) of Angband/64 out. Well, actually, it's two versions - while b5r3 fixed a number of bugs, reworked some code and added a couple features, it also added a crashing bug which this newer release is hoped to fix.
- A Bit Of Fun. GameSpy, the online gaming news network, has posted an amusing feature on Nethack. It is a comic masquerading as an article really but fun nonetheless. Take a peek here.

- Snip! Just a quick note to say that April is now sunning itself in the quiet glades of the Archives section.
Thursday 25th May 2000
- New ZAngband. The last release was back at the beginning of February so I'm sure this new release from Robert Rühlmann and the DevTeam of ZAngband (v.2.5.0) will go down well. It's a beta release and with the mass of changes (too big to be listed on these pages but you'll find them here), you can expect the odd bugette. Main changes include the addition of a new wilderness and a number of balance related modifications. If you just want to get into the thick of it, you'll find the files you need here...

- 40 Strong. Congratulate Brian Robinson on supplying the article that pushed the Development section to the minor-milestone of 40 development articles. Brian's article is called Random Name Generation Using Regular Expressions and details how you can go about creating a wealth of realistic sounding names with a few simple rules. Right, so which of you folk out there are going to take us up to 50? Come on, don't be shy...

- C64 Rogue. Commodore 64 emulation and game archive, Lemon, has just put up a new set of old C64 games and with this current batch comes Mastertronic's commercial release of Rogue. The site has everything you need if you want to relive the 80's so go take a look.
- KAngband Alpha. Despite Mark Howson and the KAngband devteam being hard at work, they've found time to put together an Alpha version of the new code. Remember, this is ALPHA and so it most likely has it's fair share of bugs and unfinished corners - be gentle. One of the interesting features of this revamp is that a lot of code being added is written in Python. In fact, Mark is looking for people interested in coding Python for KAngband - which he mentions is a lot easier to understand than other languages.
- New CthAngband. Dean Anderson has released a new version (v4.0.1) of his variant - CthAngband. Apparently there were a couple of problems uploading the files to 'export' and the full source was corrupted. The 'lite' version (without the libraries) is available though, so all is not lost. Anyhoo, here is the list of changes with the files available below that...
  • Wizard Mode moved to 'Cheat Options' page.

  • Player ghosts now use graphics if possible.
  • 'Dungeons' may now be towers (tiny levels heading upwards) as well as caves (larger levels heading downwards).
  • 5 new dungeons added.
  • Dungeons now have a 'bias' towards a certain type of creature.
  • Charm destruction and identify staff bugs fixed (thanks to Greg Wooledge).
  • Bug in spell energy calculation fixed.
  • Skills can only be improved if you are not bored (i.e. there is a minimum depth requirement based on your current skill value.)

  • 'Wizard Mode' flag is cleared with cheat flags on character creation.
  • Extra cheat option - 'cheat_skll' to view skill checks.
  • Toughness is only increased when you lose more than 1/20th of your current hit points in a single hit.
  • Magic skills only improve if there was a 10% failure chance (or greater) for the spell/favour/power/cantrip.
  • No experience is gained on the surface, only in dungeons
  • Attacks only improve your attack skill (and/or martial arts) if you have less than 75% chance to hit.
  • Attacks with mutations (Horns, Tail etc.) give experience to your 'close combat' skill, not your weapon skill.
And here are the files...

- Ooops! Yes, the page was getting kinda long and yes, I'd been a little too busy to snip it down to size but I've now stripped off everything that was March. You'll find it lurking in the Archives section. In a few more days, April will be going bye-bye too so if you've got any specific dates you want to wish well, now is you last chance. ;)
Tuesday 2nd May 2000
