- Enhanced Beta. As mentioned a week or so back, Arcum Dagsson has a new version of Mac Enhanced Angband up here sleeve. Well, here it is. Version 2.8.3 beta is available as source and as a compiled PPC Mac binary - with the 68K version being delayed due to 'being flaky' :) Here are some of the changes...
  • A new underlying code structure.
  • A monster recall window, and options window.
  • Control-clicking on any term window will let you set the flags for that window.
  • Partial Adam Bolt Support.
Arcum next intends to update the code to 2.9.1 now that 2.8.3 is up and running. Anyhoo, here are the files...

- New AllegroHack. 'Wingnut' has a new version (1.4) of AllegroHack. Here is a quick changes list...
  • Finally fixed the bug that delayed loading on the Rogue level.
  • Added anti-aliasing of stretched bitmaps. This improves image quality in some areas.
  • Some eye-candy when changing levels.
  • A few new tiles.
DOS binary and source can be found on the project homepage.
- Win PernAngband. John I'anson-Holton has been good enough to create a Windows binary of the recent PernAngband release (v4.0.9). You can find the file here...
- Full Angband. Not one, but two updates to Robert Rühlmann's non-beta release of Angband. The one you'll be wanting is v2.9.1v2 as the first release featured a little bugette that Robert quickly spotted and fixed. The usual long list of changes (found here) features the additions made to both version so take a peek. If, however, you want to drive straight in and grab the files, you'll find them below...
- More Tweaks. Jurriaan Kalkman has released another new version of Angband/64 (b6r2) and it follows the recent trend of minor tweaks and bug fixes.

- Rings Move. Just a quick note to say that the project homepage for The 4th Age: The Lost Rings has upped stumps and moved. Update your links/bookmarks.

- Dev Duo. It's been a little quiet on the Development section front recently but here are two new articles to break the drought. The first, from Michael Heinich, details the fantasy benefits of shoddy craftsmanship on equipment and is called 'Equipment Wear and Tear'. The second is by Michael Blackney and is called 'The Building of Towns'. As you might expect, his article explains methods for putting together interesting communities for your little roguelike people to live in - full of sports centres, faceless office blocks and questionable nightclubs... okay, I'm fibbing there but it does tell you how to create top towns. Many thanks go to both of our generous authors.

- Mac Moves. Or more specifically, Arcum Dagsson has moved out of his previous web-home and taken the Mac Enhanced Angband project with him - it had been playing music until all hours and the neighbours complained. Anyhoo, he's found a home for it with a much more relaxed attitude and it is settling in nicely. Also, there should be a new version coming soon so stay tuned.
- Bug Splat. Another new version of Angband/64 (b6r1) from Jurriaan Kalkman is available and like the last release, this one is specifically dedicated to the eradication of little code-flavoured insectoids.
- Amiga Pern. Bablos has a new Amiga port the recent PernAngband (v4.0.9) release. There is no 68000 patch with this version due to lack of interest. The file you'll be wanting is listed below...

- New Roguelike. Quest: Lord of Darkness is a new roguelike project started by Chris Allcock and written in Delphi 4. Chris is creating the game as an open-source freeware project with the hopes that eventually people will be able to take the source and create their own variants from it. At the moment there is the source and Windows binary for an early preview, called the 'Potion Preview' available from the homepage. Take a look.
- Angband Beta. Robert Rühlmann has a new beta version (2.9.1) of Angband. Just to make it clear, this is a beta and has a fair few new bugs (check page for known bugs, tell Robert if you spot some new ones) within. The other two files listed below are not executables but the files you need if you wish to compile said executables.
- New PernAngband. 'Darkgod' has released version (4.0.9) of his Angband variant, PernAngband. As it's a little quiet so far this month, here is lengthy-ish list of changes...
  • Add a new dir to lib, DNGN which contain the definition of the LEVELS not the dungeons.
  • Necromancers can use the Nether realm in addition to their old set of powers (now accesible through 'U').
  • Boomerangs of spinning are no more allowed (that was silly).
  • Increased the rarity of the ULTIMATE artifacts (Magestaff of Gandalf, Longsword of Eru, Seeker Bolt/Xbow of the Elves).
  • Players can now choose which kinds of monsters they dont want in their game at birth (wipe all Pern monsters, all Cth, monsters, joke monsters, ..).
  • In the Maze you can no longer remember anything, that means everything you see is what it's in your light radius !
  • Archers now get a better chance of not breaking their ammo as they advance levels.
  • Added the Orc Barracks special level (level 35 of the Moria) from Chris Weisiger (jmartin@inreach.com).
  • The maze is now guarded by The Baby Minotaur who is holding The Steel helm of Hammerhand.
  • The graveyard is guarded by Vecna holding Doomcaller.
  • You can now use the 'l'ook command in the small wilderness view.
  • Between gates are no more automatics, you must press > while standing on one to activate it.
  • Revised the Adventurer's guide thanks to Chris Weisiger (jmartin@inreach.com).
  • You can no more recall from a quest.
  • You can no longer target pets.
  • Reenabled the "Control the rings" spells of the Shadow realm.
  • Between gates are now purple +.
  • Only priest-like characters can use the Valarin realm.
  • When a full character dump is requested(upon death) the self-knowledge screen is used instead of the grid of abilities, that looks better :)
  • Fixed the mountain bug that hung the game when entering mountain chains in the wilderness.
  • Some more monsters from Angband/64 and some more work on r_info from Static Chaos.
  • Damage took from going between is divided by (ac / 50) + 1.
  • Greater Hell Beasts now have .. 1 hp :)
  • Add the Unbeliever class, they are anti magicians.
  • Add an option to auto tunnel walls when bumping into them.
  • Really fixed the note taking bug (ok stole the fix from Zangband :)
- Monday, Monday... Just a note to say that there may not be any update on this coming Monday. Our company is having it's annual conference and apparently I have to go. That pretty much takes care of the day and with a meal in the evening, I'm going to be nowhere near a PC all day...

- Wuh? MJBand? Gee, it's been awfully quiet in roguelikeland over the past week. Well, to break up the monotony, Robert Rühlmann has created Windows and DOS ports of MJBand (v0.0.6). If you want the files, you'll find them on Robert's Thangorodrim site, here.

- New SLASH'EM. Warren Cheung has a new version (0.0.6E2F1) of the Nethack/SLASH variant SLASH'EM. This release tweaks and plays around with the Allegro code that was added in the last version. Source, DOS, Allegro enhanced DOS and Win32 versions are available from the project homepage. Here are the changes...
  • Support any size tiles (16x16, 32x32, 48x64 are default).
  • Hopefully renders the rogue level faster.
  • Pseudo-3D tile mode using the 48x64 tiles (courtesy of Nethack2000).
  • Whole bunch of twiddling around with the Allegro code because it was fun :)
Monday 3rd July 2000
- New Star Rogue. Robin Gawlik has a new alpha version of Star Rogue (v0.24a) for you. The changes list is quite large but is apparently available for viewing on the project homepage.
- New Angband/64. The majority of changes to Jurriaan Kalkman's new version of Angband/64 (b5r5) are apparently fixes for various things but we won't hold that against him, will we?
- Amiga MJ. Bablos has a new port for you Amiga peeps to fiddle with. This time it is the turn of MJBand (v0.0.6) which you should find linked just below this message...
