David Grabiner's RFD for rec.games.roguelike.development.
Posted to news.announce.newgroups by David J. Grabiner.
REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD) unmoderated group rec.games.roguelike.development This is a formal Request for Discussion (RFD) for the creation of a world-wide unmoderated Usenet newsgroup rec.games.roguelike.development. This is not a Call for Votes (CFV); you cannot vote at this time. Procedural details are below. Newsgroup line: rec.games.roguelike.development Design and programming of Roguelike games. RATIONALE: rec.games.roguelike.development The Roguelike games often use ideas, or even code, from each other. With the large number of Roguelike games and variants in existence and in development, there are occasional discussions about programming problems such as dungeon-generation algorithms which are of interest to designers of several games. However, since most of the discussion in the rec.games.roguelike.* groups deals with playing the individual games, people working on one game usually don't read all of the groups and will not see the ideas being developed for other games. CHARTER: rec.games.roguelike.development This group if for discussion of programming and design issues for the Roguelike game family, including both development of new games and modifications of existing games. Crossposting to the group dealing with an existing game is acceptable, but posts which are only relevant to the development of a single game and not of general interest should be discussed in that game's group only. Binaries (other than PGP signatures) and commercial advertisements are not acceptable in this group. END CHARTER. PROCEDURE: This is a request for discussion, not a call for votes. In this phase of the process, any potential problems with the proposed newsgroups should be raised and resolved. The discussion period will continue for a minimum of 21 days (starting from when the first RFD for this proposal is posted to news.announce.newgroups), after which a Call For Votes (CFV) may be posted by a neutral vote taker if the discussion warrants it. Please do not attempt to vote until this happens. All discussion of this proposal should be posted to news.groups. This RFD attempts to comply fully with the Usenet newsgroup creation guidelines outlined in "How to Create a New Usenet Newsgroup" and "How to Format and Submit a New Group Proposal". Please refer to these documents (available in news.announce.newgroups) if you have any questions about the process. DISTRIBUTION: This RFD will be posted to the following newsgroups: news.announce.newgroups, news.groups, alt.games.omega, rec.games.roguelike.adom, rec.games.roguelike.angband, rec.games.roguelike.misc, rec.games.roguelike.moria, rec.games.roguelike.nethack, rec.games.roguelike.rogue.
